OVERVIEW

Photography Exhibit 2024

The Suwanee Arts Center strives to advance opportunities for artists by hosting and curating several exhibits each year. These exhibitions will consider entries in 2D and 3D art of any medium. Craftsmanship and presentation of artwork will be criteria for acceptance into the exhibit.

CRITERIA

Photography Exhibition Entry Requirements

​

The Suwanee Arts Center is proud to announce its 9th Annual Photography Exhibit. 

​

  • CRITERIA: OPEN THEME

  • Images must be taken by the artist and processed by the artist from original film negative or digital image 

  • The artist must use archival ink printed paper, high quality metal/aluminum, acrylic, and/or canvas will be accepted. 

  • Photographers are required to disclose both their creative and printing processes upon request.  Raw files may be requested.

  • Images must not violate any copyright laws.​

Categories of Submission:
​

The Entries presented for judging must be photographic in origin (taken with a camera).  This year we will offer judging in two categories:  â€‹

Photographic - Open Category 
Creative - Open Category​​

 

Photographic Category Requirements:
  • ALL aspects must be photographed by the artist.  This includes composite photographs.  Limited post processing is acceptable (Highlights, Shadows, Blacks, Whites, Contrast, Levels, and minor touching up i.e. removing dust spots; not adding in an element not captured in the photographing process). Raw files may be requested.​

 

 

Creative Category Requirements:
  • Photos must be original. There are no restrictions on post-production except that any post-production must be the work of the entrant. You cannot have someone else edit or work on the image for you. 

​

General Requirements- Any category
  • All photography must be properly framed or at least 1 1/2” deep gallery wrapped with painted edges and no visible staples.  Please limit size to no larger than 48" in either dimension. 

  • All art must be wired to hang (no saw tooth hangers). 

  • Artwork must be for sale. SAC retains 30% commission of all works sold during the exhibit. Please price accordingly.                                  

  • Sold works may not be removed from the gallery prior to the close of exhibit.

  • Entries must not violate copyright laws.

  • All accepted artwork must be hand delivered to Suwanee Arts Center with a legible identification label. Labels must include: Artist’s name, Title, Medium, and Price for artwork.

  • SAC reserves the right to refuse any submitted work which does not adhere to the guidelines listed, is deemed inappropriate, offensive, or improperly presented.

We are proud to announce the Photography exhibit will be judged by Allyssa Ortega Coppelman

She is Art Editor at the Oxford American, which won the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2016 and has been nominated thrice since in that category. She is also the Archival Producer of the Emmy-nominated PBS NewsHour series, Brief But Spectacular.

AWARDS

  • Ribbons and sponsored cash prizes will be awarded to Overall Best in Show, then 1st,  2nd, 3rd, for each category (Photographic and Creative).

  • Honorable Mention Emerging Artist categories will be awarded. 

  • People's Choice awarded at the end of the Exhibit.

  • Visit Suwanee Arts Center to vote for your favorite piece of art.

INSURANCE AND LIABILITY

  • Each artist is responsible for insurance of his or her own artwork. While all care will be taken while art is being exhibited in the Suwanee Arts Center, SAC and its members or anyone working on the exhibition, assumes no responsibility for any damage to the artwork during delivery, installation and de-installation. SAC will not be liable for artwork not claimed after specified pick-up dates and time.

PUBLICITY

  • Images of works may be used for SAC marketing and on social media.

ENTRY FEE:​

  • SAC Members  - $35 (entitles artists to submit a total of 3 pieces)

  • Not Yet Members  - $45 (entitles artists to submit a total of 3 pieces)

  • Emerging Artist (high school students ages 16-19) $15 (entitles student to submit 2 piece)
    Fee is non-refundable.

RENAME YOUR IMAGE FILE​​

  • VERY IMPORTANT:

  • Name your IMAGE file(s). Artist name - Title of artwork

  • EX: ANDY WARHOL - TOMATO SOUP CAN

  • **The image file must identify the artwork title- otherwise we can not decipher random file names/numbers. 

  • Entries must be smaller than 3MB.

  • Failure to follow exactly as stated WILL disqualify your work from judging and prizes.

  • You will receive an email from suwaneeartscenter.org confirming your submission has been processed. You will be notified by email if your work has been accepted.

Notifications emailed to accepted artists on or before

You will receive an acceptance email that will inform you if one or more of your entries have been ACCEPTED into the Exhibition. We would like to include everyone's work in the exhibit; however, space is limited.

Artwork delivered to SAC between 11 am - 5:00 pm

Please contact SAC if an earlier drop-off is required. 

Late artwork will not be included as exhibit curating will be affected.

IMPORTANT!

  • Artists may submit a maximum of 3 entries per application.

  • Please attach an image to each entry along with the title, dimensions and price. 

  • Please include the title of artwork on image file BEFORE uploading image.

Member Status

Sales

Should your artwork sell, Suwanee Arts Center will collect a 30% commission of the retail selling price. SAC will pay the required Georgia state sales tax. Commissions from all sales benefit the Suwanee Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This commission agreement is valid up to 90 days after the end of the exhibit.

 

Use of Images

The Suwanee Arts Center reserves the right to use images and to photograph entries for the purpose of documentation, education, and publicity, including social media. Any image used by the Suwanee Arts Center shall carry a credit line for the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.

Agreement

Submission of image(s), upon being accepted, signature of this form and the delivery of the artwork shall constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to comply with the conditions set forth in this prospectus, including the following: I hereby release and discharge the officers, employees and volunteers of the Suwanee Arts Center from any and all claims occasioned by damage or loss of said artwork while in possession of the Suwanee Arts Center. It is the responsibility of the Artist to maintain the insurance necessary to insure any and all of the exhibited artwork for the full amount the Artist would have received from the SAC if the merchandise would have been sold.

 

No accepted artwork for this exhibition may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibit. Sold items will be released after the exhibition ends.
